What is a PFLAG member?

PFLAG members come in all ages, races, national origins, gender, gender identity and familial status.  We invite Mom's, Dad's, cousins, siblings, friends and anyone else who want to make a difference in the lives of their LGBTQ friends and family.

PFLAG is a national organization that stands on three key points.  We support those in need, we help educate ourselves and others, and advocate for cause of creating a better world for our LGBTQ friends, family and neighbors.

There are many ways to be a part of the positive changes that we make in the community.
Monthly in-person meetings:
We have a meeting once a month that members and fellow advocates and friends get together for support and education discussions.  We invite a number of speakers and professionals on relevant subjects to current events.  We take pride in creating a safe and comfortable environment to allow people from all walks of life come and join our discussions.

Volunteering:
We are always looking for volunteers to help us on a number of fronts.  There are opportunities to help by representing in a number of events that we are a part of as well as roles to compose our monthly newsletters, monitor and maintain our website and social media pages, and we always welcome any professionals with experience to assist in our writing of grants to continue our scholarship program.

Membership dues and donations:
The money that PFLAG raises in its membership dues and donations from community members is used for a number of things throughout our year.  The money helps provide us with literature to have on hand for our events as well as training material for school and workplace environments.  Portions of the money that PFLAG brings in on a national level is used to help us lobby for LGBTQ rights issues at the capitol to ensure that our voice is heard on the forefront of our national processes in a positive way.  We are also very proud to announce that PFLAG will be financially assisting the new coming Homeless Youth Shelters provided by the Volunteers of America.

PFLAG welcomes everybody!  We want to be sure we are clear in saying that our organization is not just for Moms and Dads, but everyone including our LGBTQ friends themselves.  Come join us and share with us your stories and let us best help you.  Together we as the Salt Lake Chapter hopes to become even stronger for the years coming.

Warmest Regards,
Lynette Kocherhans
Salt Lake Chapter PFLAG President
